Sept 6: Sailing from Deltaville to Reedville, VA
A glorious day for a holiday! SW winds at 10knots meant our best day of sailing -- all sails up and headed in the direction we want to go. Life doesn't get any better than that on a sailboat!
We had the bay to ourselves!
No sight of land from all sides of the boat. It's a big body of water.
We travelled about 40 miles today. Reedville is on the edge of VA, so our next cruise will take us across the Potomac River and into Maryland. There is so much to explore here along the Great Wicomico River that we've heard we could easily spend a week exploring the area. We plan to layover a day and drop the dinghy in the water to check out a small part of the area. Most places along the Chesapeake make their living from fishing, and Reedville is best known for Menhaden fish (never heard of them). They have a fish processing plant here that can make it a stinky place to stay if the wind is not blowing the right direction.
We anchored for the nite off this point.
Tuesday, Sept 7. Lazy day in Reedville.
Off we go in the dinghy, exploring the sites of Reedville. It's a very cute town, and it seems like everyone lives on the water as the town is comprised of several deep coves and creeks that run off the main Cockrell Creek. In and out we go into each cove, exploring the homes and docks and wildlife along each one.

Best place in town for a lunch of crab cake sandwiches. And we bought fresh Grouper for dinner at their deli. Actually, we discovered that this deli was the only place in town open (except for the weekends).
Returning from an afternoon of sightseeing, we dinghied over to visit our neighbor on the catamaran. They invited us aboard, and we stayed for several hours, several beers and 2 bottles of wine! Main Stay is a beautiful 50ft catamaran ... simply amazing! Don and Pat live in Annapolis and had the boat custom-built 3 years ago, complete with a washing machine and ice-cream maker! We have been on one other cat, but nothing like this beauty! King size beds, wonderful views from the saloon windows, and a huge aft cockpit that we were reluctant to leave even after it got dark and the wind picked up. It was a real delight to visit with them after spending several days with just each other. They gave us a lot of tips about the upper Chesapeake, and we wish we could follow them all the way to Annapolis!
