After a month of constant movement, it feels absolutely decadent to just be hanging out at the marina … day after day … no agenda, no cruising maps, no engine checks, no monitoring water usage, no weather watching, no timing the tides, no checks to see if the anchor is dragging, no anxiety over the depth sounder.
We sleep in, have coffee in the cockpit, people-watch, boat-watch, read books, go swimming, watch TV… and then start the whole process over again the next day (maybe throwing in a load of laundry in the meantime). Why, it almost feels like a real vacation! Nothing scary has happened for 4 whole days!
We’ve had a couple of wicked storms in the evening, requiring us to zip in the cockpit enclosure and tie on an additional spring line, but honestly, we’re at a dock! How bad could 60 knots of wind and lightening and torrential rain really be? The biggest inconvenience was a night of tuna sandwiches b/c grilling out was not an option.
Ah, yes, this relaxation feels well deserved! We both leave on respective flights next Thursday (August 12); Dan to Florida for 2 weeks to see his mom and me to Ohio to see Michelle. So even when we feel the urge “to plan” our next destination, we know we cannot go far b/c of this unplanned change in plans. More practice in being flexible, a big part of this cruising life!
Today (Sunday, 8/8) we had planned to go day sailing on the Bay; only to awaken to not a breathe of wind. So, go to Plan B -- Books, Beer and Bathing Suits as we head up to the pool.

Capt Dan. Master of his domain!
Our current transportation! The bike gets taken apart and stored in the anchor locker when we're underway. 15 minute ride to the grocery store.

Hi Dan & Nancy, Congratulations on the journey! It looks amazing! I had no idea you were coming to the East Coast. You know I am only 3 hours from Hampton. In fact, I was on the Chesapeake Bay on Aug. 8. Would love to come see you or you have an open invitation to come to Alexandria if you feel coming inland. I live by myself and have plenty of room. Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Michele (Casey) Kraftschik 703-346-9447 or mkraftschik@dimuro.com
Dan is looking GOOD! What a life - you are ahead of the pack. We should all live this way.
