June 2017 - All About The Wedding

May 23 - June 8:  Kansas City/Fort Leavenworth

Wedding fever is running high, but first things first ... gotta go see the grandchild!  Who is sitting on his own now and eating real food!

Although not their first choice for this leadership education program, Ft Leavenworth proved to be a great location for this year.  Craig could ride his bike to class, come home for lunch, spend time in his big workshop widely expanding his wood working skills, and most importantly, spend lots of time with baby Max.  Michelle found herself another tribe of great Army wives in the neighborhood as well as at the Stroller Strong Moms workout group she joined. And she learned the tradeoffs of exchanging a full-time job outside the home with that of full-time, stay-at-home mom job. Yeah, everyone still misses Savannah, but following Craig's formal promotion to Major, he learned that he will be stationed next in Germany for 2 years, so life is good for the Nelsons!

(I am having a harder time cheering their travels since they will take this lil nugget away!)

June 8: Off to Minnesota

As the movers showed up in Ft Leavenworth, we were on the highway, headed north, so excited to be entering the heart of wedding planning!
  • June 10: Bachelor Party
  • June11-12: Helping out at the farm. James built 8 benches, 4 high-top tables, and one large picnic table for the event.  Our job was to sand and paint.

  • June 13: Nelsons arrive in WSP
  • June 14: Brother Jimmy flew out from CA
  • June 15: Mani/Pedis
  • June 16: Set up at the farm. Rehearsal. Family dinner.
  • June 17:  TODAY IS THE DAY
First Look

When you plan an outdoor wedding and reception, you obsess about the weather. We watched multiple weather sites and saw the forecast bounce from 90deg heat to thunderstorms.  In the end, we all agreed that we'd prefer rain to extreme heat ... as long as we didn't get too much and it came at the right times!  And that it did! Pictures, ceremony, relocating to winery ... check, check check, perfect weather.  Sitting under the canopy tent with a Margarita or glass of wine, then the rain politely moved through.  No complaints.  It was a beautiful, warm and heartfelt service.

Dan was the officiate for the ceremony which added to the warm, family touch.

The many Mexican culture additions to the ceremony were awesome.
