I ain't gonna lie ... we kinda got talked into this ski weekend in the Austrian Alps with Michelle's ski club. The last time we were skiing in CO was Christmas 2005 ... so, yeah, a loooooog time ago. But, we have plans to go to Austria for a week in January, and this seemed like a good dry run to figure out if skiing really was like "learning to ride a bike" ....
Plus, it was the Austrian Alps! If that's not a seductive enough reason, then I don't know what is!
So, we rented skis from the military post (nice that they extend these perks to extended family), boarded a bus, and 6 hours later arrived with a bunch of drunken fools in the beautiful Austrian town of Obergurgl.
I'll keep this post short b/c it's all about the pictures when it comes to the Alps.
- We did ski both days.
- We did not have to take the gondola back down the mountain.
- There was fresh powder the 2nd day which was over-the-top delightful.
- Dan never fell.
- Nancy fell twice and brought home one bruise.
- Michelle's friend, Ashley, is also with the ski club, and it was genuinely fun to be skiing with young folks again,
- All four of us agreed there was no shame is stopping for Gluhwein at 11:00 am.
- Goulash and a giant pretzel make the best lunch ever.

(no lie ...one of my favorite sites was the chalet at the bottom of a long run!)

Proof that we were actually there :)
(and that we didn't spend all our time here :)

and, yes, we skied!

and drank ... Radlers (beer + lemonade = :)

Nothing beats fresh powder

So, we get off the gondola at the top of the mountain and decide to stop for lunch.
Then, the girls notice a hill above the chalet, with a cross on the top.
"Hey, we could climb that. and I bet there's a great view...."
so, off they went....
halfway there...
home stretch ...

nice that there was someone at the top to take their picture!

and yes, the view was worth the hike!

And that's all I've got to say about skiing in the Alps!
