August 2013 -- We are in GERMANY!

Greetings from Freihung, Germany

We arrived back in MN on June 7, allowing us an all-too-brief two months in Minnesota to visit with dear friends (Dan, Renee, Jim, Robert), family (Laury, Bob, Steven), favorite son (James), and annual visits to Mayo Clinic.

Gang's all here for dinner at James' house

Sure miss this guy :)

On August 6th, we boarded a plane for Germany!

This not the usual direction we tend to travel this time of year, but we got a unique invitation to stay with our daughter, Michelle, during Craig's deployment to Afghanistan, and we decided it was only right that we fulfill our parental responsibility and keep her company!  Oh yes, plus the attraction of 9 months to explore Europe, with a lovely home base in Freihung, Germany where Michelle and Craig live.... what's not to like?!  It was an extra special treat to arrive early enough to spend ~3 weeks with Craig before he left.

Fast forward 33 hours of traveling, and it's now August 7th.  With rudimentary German, international signs, and good luck, we made all of our connections... 2 cars, 3 planes, and 4 trains.

We landed in Frankfort, Germany at 8:30am.  Since both Craig and Michelle are working today, we took the longer scenic train route which saved us significant euros and allowed us our first views of the gorgeous countryside, complete with fields upon fields of grape vines along the Rhine River.

Ta Dah!  We arrived in Freihung w/o a hitch.

August 8 and 9:
R&R in Freihung.  Sleeping in, mowing the lawn, taking Molly for walks, exploring the cute little town, meeting the neighbors, going shopping, discovering that no one speaks English!

Look at us, all grown up!

Freihung is a picture-perfect hamlet, surrounded by rolling hills and open country.
